
Norman A. Mitchell, Sr.
Governor Roy Cooper announced the appointment of Norman A. Mitchell, Sr., as a member of the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission in July 2018. He previously served on the state’s Local Government Retirement System as an appointee of Gov. Mike Easley. Commissioner Mitchell is a native of Charlotte who served for ten years on the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners, after which he was a consultant for Siemens USA. He attended Johnson C. Smith University and is a graduate of the North Carolina Institute of Political Leadership. Commissioner Mitchell is a combat-wounded veteran of the Vietnam War and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He served with the First Brigade of the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division in the Republic of Vietnam and with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg. He and his wife Denise live in Charlotte and are parents of two children.
