Fingerprinting

Each person applying for an ABC permit must submit fingerprints to be used for a criminal background check in accordance with North Carolina General Statute 18B-902.

Applicants can visit their local sheriff's office to obtain an official fingerprint card. Use the search below to find a location near you.

In addition to your completed Permit Forms, please submit the following fingerprinting materials to the NC ABC Commission:

  • Fingerprint Card obtained from a local law enforcement/government agency.
  • Photocopy of a government-issued photo identification document (Valid ID)
  • A completed Authority for Release of Information
  • Cashier’s/Certified check or money order made payable to the NC ABC Commission for $38.00


The applicant's fingerprints will be sent to the State Bureau of Investigation for a state criminal history check. The State Bureau of Investigation will forward a set of the fingerprints to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a national criminal history check. The Commission shall keep all information privileged and confidential, in accordance with applicable state law and federal guidelines, and it shall not be public record under Chapter 132 of the General Statutes.


Note: Applicants for the following types of permits are exempt from the fingerprinting requirement:  Special One-Time / Limited Special Occasion
